The Ferrari 458 Italia replaces the F430 arising from a completely new design and innovation technologies developed from the company’s experience in Formula One. The forms and the volume of each Ferrari are the result of the integration between aerodynamics and design. In developing the 458 Italia, the styling process went hand in hand with the aerodynamic development in order to turn technical necessities into distinctive features.
The car VDA, or Vehicle Dynamic Assistance, provides technical support to the driver in assessing both vehicle status and his own performance. The VDA is activated when the manettino is at RACE, CT and CST settings and gives drivers’ information that allows them to assess the ideal operating condition for the car. An algorithm assess the car’s status (brakes, engine, tires and engine temperature) based on dynamic parameters such as lateral and longitudinal acceleration, rpm, speed, etc. The VDA alerts the driver by displaying the following shorthand: WARM UP when the components need to further warm up; GO when optimal conditions to reach maximum performance are achieved; OVER when there is overheating and cooling the components is required.
In regards to the 458 Italia interiors, the standard seats are had upholstered in full grain leather with matching stitching. The Carter reflects the vehicle paint color, while the backrest structure is in magnesium with a fixed head rest and standard manual adjustment. Electronic longitudinal, backrest, height and tilt adjustments can be ordered as an option. Another option offers the owner to electronically manage the driver side memory control, heating, as well as the lumbar and side adjustments. For the most passionate drivers, the 458 Italia is available with the racing seat as an option, which is lighter and designed to offer improved containment thanks to its carbon fiber structure. The racing seat is available in three different sizes with manual backrest angle adjustment and movement. The standard trim is in leather but it can be available in leather/Alcatraz upholstery as an option.
The 458 Italia center console features a sculptural aluminum casting which houses the F1 gearshift panel and its dynamic controls: the launch control button, reverse and the Auto switch to put the gearbox in automatic mode.
The cockpit has been designed for the 99.5 percent of occupants in height. The luggage compartment has a capacity of 230 liters and allows having three specific designed bags with a total capacity of 110 liters. The rear bench can also be used to stow two other bespoke bags, with a total capacity of 140 liters.
